There are days when I feel as though I should be further in life than where I am. I start to get anxious about my future and then fear grips me. What am I going to do? How can I manage without money? How am I going to pay for my son’s college? Will I ever get out of debt? All these questions crowd my mind and I sink deeper and deeper into fear and worry. It is during these times that I have to purposely remind myself that the LORD is my source. I start to confess, the LORD is everything I need and want. He is my joy, my peace, my strength, my provider and my protector. “He is the lifter up of my head”. Psalms 3:3. He protects my family and me from harm. These confessions increase my faith and help me to put my hope in God for all I need, both present and future. I know his plans for my life are “good and not for evil”. Jeremiah 29:11.
One name for God in the Bible is Jehovah Jireh, which means “The Lord will provide” Genesis 22:14. So when there is a lack in an area of my life, I can call upon his providing name to provide whatever it is that I am in need of if it fits into his will for my life. Whenever you ask God for something that is in line with his will for you and you don’t receive an answer right away, don’t be discouraged. Trust in him and know he’s a good God and he will take care of you. There may be a reason why God does not give us what we ask for when we first ask him. Sometimes we can pray for the right blessings at the wrong time. If God was to give us the right blessings at the wrong time we may not be mature enough to manage the blessing properly. For example, you wouldn’t give a car to a 14 year old that has not learned to drive or obtained a learner’s permit. The teenager may think or even believe he or she is ready to drive a car, but it will not be the best idea to give it to them. They still have a process that they need to go through to make sure they are ready and mature enough to handle a car when they get it. This is similar to our Heavenly Father. God doesn’t give us anything that will harm us. He makes sure it is the right time for us. We need to trust him and have faith that he knows what he is doing. At the appointed time, we will receive the answers to our prayers. I try to keep in mind that God is always providing even when I cannot see it.
I was a single mother for about 12 years. When I look back now, I see how God provided for my son and me during those 12 years. There were times when I felt discouraged and down, but God was there opening doors and taking care of us. When I needed a baby sitter, the Lord provided someone to babysit. When I had trouble paying my bills because I was in school, the Lord brought financial support through someone. He always brought people around me that encouraged me and helped in all sorts of ways. Now, when I sit back and remember those times when he made a way out of no way, I just give him all the glory. He is a good God!
I want to encourage someone today. No matter what you are going through, whether it’s a financial problem, health problem or problem in your family, remember God is able! “He can do exceedingly, abundantly, above, and beyond, all we can ask or think according to the power that works in us”. Ephesians 3:20. My question to you is which power that is working in you? Is it the power of God or the power of fear and doubt? Do not allow fear and doubt to consume you. Continue to have faith in God and trust that he will take care of your needs. God said in his word that we are “not to worry”. Matthew 6:25-34. Instead, we are to “cast our cares onto him for he cares for us”. 1 Peter 5:7. If you put your trust in the Lord he will take care of you. Don’t lose hope, our God is good!
