Leave the measuring to the ruler!

It’s going to be hard to fulfill God’s purpose in your life if you are always measuring yourself, and your purpose to that of other people. Sometimes I feel so inadequate, especially when I start to measure myself to others. I find myself asking and questioning God; Lord, Can I really do this? Do I really have what it takes?  Look at this person and that person, they are so disciplined. I can’t even discipline myself about what to eat, how can I do this? At that moment, anxiety and fear set in and everything starts to spiral downhill.  Thoughts of giving up rush through my mind and I start to doubt myself. Oh, how the devil loves when we are in this place. It gives him an avenue to pile on more lies that discourage me even more. But God is so good, He does not leave me to fend for myself. He steps in and reminds me that I am chosen for this task and to “cast my cares onto Him”. (1 Peter. 5.17)

Everyone has a divine assignment on earth. There is a particular reason we have all been created, and it’s to fulfill a specific purpose.  However, when we focus on the lives of other people, measuring our gifts and talents to them, we risk leaving our place of purpose empty and unattended to.  No one can fulfill your purpose but you!

Someone else may be doing the same thing you are called to do but will not do it the way you have been called to do it. For instance, we are all called to preach the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. However, the way in which we go about accomplishing the task is different. So, if you are measuring yourself to another person, saying they are doing better than you ever could, then you are limiting yourself and the God who has called you. The bible tells us to look up to Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith. (Hebrews. 12.2) He is the One we need to keep our eyes on. We need to focus on Him to show us how to walk in our giftings and talents. Let’s stop trying to be like everyone else, striving to do things like they are doing it. Your life can not be measured by how other people live their lives. It can only be measured by how you live your life.

If you are not sure what your purpose is, pray and ask God to reveal it to you. If you seek Him with your whole heart, you will find Him. ( Matthew 7:7) He is ready to answer you and to show you what you have been created and put on this earth to do. No two people are the same, therefore their purposes and achievements are different. So, there is no need to measure yourself to anyone else. The world needs all of our contributions. Let’s stop the measuring and begin to operate in our gifting.

Until we meet again, keep the faith and remember Jesus loves you!
